ELITE - IES for Indian Engineering Service

The Indian Engineering Services Examination (IES) is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

IES Examination is conducted in the month of June/July every year.

This examination is conducted for recruitment to services/posts in various departments of the Central Government.

Recruitments on the basis of result of this examination for the Services/Posts falls under the following categories.

Category I Civil Engineering
Category II Mechanical Engineering
Category III Electrical Engineering
Category IV Electronics Engineering


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA TO APPEAR AT IES

1) The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear at IES.

a) A candidate must either be a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or subject of Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from the countries specified in the form.

b) A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not be above 30 years as on 1st August of the year of Examination. There are certain concessions in upper age limit for Govt. Employees and SC/ST/OBC etc.

2). The qualifying degree is:

a) A degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutes established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 or

b) Passed Section A and B of the Institutions Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India) or

c) Obtained a Degree/Diploma in Engineering from such foreign University/College/Institution and under such conditions as may be recognised by the Government for the purpose from time to time or

d) Passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Tele-communication Engineers (India); or

e) Passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/ Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or

f) Passed Associate Membership Examination (Sections A and B) of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (India); or

g) Passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November 1959.

h) Passed M.Sc. Degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject (only for specified departments).

i) A candidate who has appeared in any one of the above qualifying examination but the result is not known or one who intends to appear is also eligible. Such candidates should provide the necessary documents along with the detailed application which will be required to be submitted by the candidates who qualify on the result of written examination.

The examination shall be conducted according to the following plan :

Part - I Written Examination

The written examination will comprise of 2 Sections - Section I consisting of only objective type questions and Section II of Conventional Papers. Both Sections will cover the entire syllabus of the relevant engineering discipline.

Part II - Personality Test

Those who qualify in the written examination will be called for personality test which carries 200 marks. Final merit list is prepared on the basis of combined marks of written examination and personality Test.
