ELITE - MBA for MBA Entrance

The Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) is a career oriented course.

In view of the rapid changing world of business, well qualified personnel are a vital part to keep up to the pace. As the modern business world has grown more complex and competitive, business administration has developed into a seperate discipline of manifold dimensions. Today most people consider an MBA a coveted asset that will open the floodgates of opportunities for position of power and prestige in Corporate Business Administration and Management.

In recent years there has been a great demand for MBAs in Multinational Companies, Public and Private Sectors. To cater to this demand of the business world a number of prestigious institutions are offering this course.

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) were the pioneers who offered the Post Graduates in Management (PGP) which is equivalent to MBA awarded by any University in India and recognized by AICTE.

Besides the IIMs, there are several other institutes and Universities offering courses leading to Management Degrees. A few of the well known institutes are XLRI, IRMA, FMS, IIFT, SP JAIN, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneshwar, NITIE Mumbai, Goa Institute of Management, Goa. It should be noted that all these Institutes have a placement cell where reputed companies offer highly placed jobs.

Almost all States are having a number of Management Institutes. Admission to almost all these Institutes is through Entrance Examination. Candidates successful in the Entrance Examination are called for a Group Discussion and a Personal Interview before the final selection is made for admission.

A candidate is free to write several exams in the same year.

MBA students can specialize in any of the following streams.

1. Marketing
2. Finance
3. Production
4. Information Systems
5. Human Resources

The Entrance Examination is highly competitive in nature. It is only the tough, self - confident and well prepared candidate who emerges successful.

IIMs

The IIMs have been set up by the Government of India as specialized institutes to improve the practice of management in the country. The IIMs have six colleges in the country, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Indore, Kozhikode and Lucknow. They conduct a two year full time program leading to (PGP- Post Graduates in Management). The facilities and faculty at the IIMs are the best in India. The benefits for students are the high quality of teaching, wide choice of subjects, massive library and computer facilities and easy access to industry for project placements. The average IIM student has about 2 to 3 job offers even before he completes his course. He has the option to select his employer.

Admission to the IIMs is through Common Admission Test (CAT) which is usually held in the month of December followed by a Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

The starting salary offered to a fresh MBA (with no previous experience) varies between Rs. 3-15 lakh/annum in India and if selected overseas salary may go upto 75 lakhs per annum paid in foreign currency.

Other Important Institutes Offering MBA Courses :

XLRI, Jamshedpur

The Institute offers two programs. This full time 2 years programme leads to the Institute's Business Management (BMD) and Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations (PM & IR). Candidates are required to appear for an Online Entrance Test (XAT) which is generally held in January every year.

Goa Institute of Management (GIM)

The GIM offers a 2 years full time and 3 years part time post graduate programme in Management to educate new generations of managers and administrators to professional competence and to communicate to them attitudes and values which elicit commitment to greater productivity excellence in quality and innovation alongwith awareness of their social and ethical responsibility.
Eligibility : The qualifying entrance test is - XAT conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur.

Xavier Institute of Management (XIM), Bhubaneshwar

The Institute offers two post graduate programmes in Management. These are :-
1. Two-year full time post graduate programme (PGP)
2. Three year part - time Executive Post - graduate programme (ExPGP).

The full time course leading upto the Post Graduate Diploma in Management of this Institute is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education, Government of India, as equivalent to an MBA degree. It is designed to prepare competent men & women for careers in management in the corporate sector & in public systems.

Entrance Test : Candidates are required to appear for the Admission Test conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur for all programmes other than Personnel Management & Industrial relations (PM & IR). The test is usually held in January every year.

SP Jain Institute of Management Research - SPJIMR, Mumbai

This Institute situated in Mumbai offers 2 years full-time PGDM programmes in the following four fields viz.

The FMS is one of the leading institutions in the country in the field of management education.
The FMS offers a 2 years full time programme and 3 years part time programme leading to an MBA degree.

Entrance Test : The Institute conducts an Entrance Test and on the basis of their performance in the test candidates will be called for an Interview and Group Discussion.

CET (Common Entrance Test): Admission to all Management Institutes in the State of Maharashtra is based on CET.

Apart from the above, there are various exams like MAT conducted by All India Management Association, New Delhi, JMET conducted by IIT's and IISc, & ATMA conducted by Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS).

There are approximately 140 Institutions offering MBA courses all over India. Admissions to all these Management Institutions are made on the basis of one or the other Entrance Tests.

Apart from these, there are Institutions offering the MBA degree by correspondence viz. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), etc.

GENERAL PATTERN OF THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS FOR MBA :

The Entrance Exams usually have questions based on all or some of following test areas.

  • Verbal Communication
  • Data Interpretations
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Quantitative Ability
