IIT- JEE Other Courses Offered IIT-JEE is the numero uno among the various competitive Engineering Entrance Examinations conducted at the All India level. The IITs are considered to be the best of their kind in the world. A student desirous of seeking admission to any of the IITs has to undergo a competitive Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The pattern of these examinations is quite different from what is taught in Std. XII (10 + 2) level. From the year 2006, the pattern of IIT-JEE has changed. Unlike the previous years, now the student will be tested on various skills like comprehension, aptitude and analytical ability. Given the new pattern, a larger section of the students all over India, irrespective of the rural /urban divide, should be able to appear at the JEE. A student of Std XII who has thoroughly undergone his course study should be able to compete and perform well at the JEE. Here, a correspondence course would be advantageous for the student as he/she can prepare for the JEE at his/her convenience/preferred time without undergoing undue stress of attending classes for JEE. It should also be remembered that at the same time the student has also to prepare for his/her Std. XII examinations The Joint Entrance Examination, JEE is administered jointly by the six Indian Institutes of Technology for admission to the IIT, Bombay IIT, Delhi IIT, Guwahati IIT, Kanpur IIT, Kharagpur IIT, Madras IIT, Roorkee IT-BHU, Varanasi & Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad Students who have qualified the JEE are eligible for admission to the IISER and IIST. The Entrance Examination consists of : The JEE is generally held in the month of April. The Entrance Examination will consist of two question papers of 3 hours duration, each consisting of separate sections in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The questions in these papers will be of Objective type. Incorrect answers will be awarded negative marks. Eligibility Candidates appearing for JEE should have either completed or shall be appearing in any one of the following examinations: 1. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi etc. 2. 3 or 4 year Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education. 3. Intermediate or two year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board / University. 4. Any Public School / Board / University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system. 5. H.S.C. Vocational Examination. 6. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects. 7. Final Examination of the two year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy. 8. General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) Level. 9. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University. The candidates belonging to the general category must secure a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in their qualifying examination. 5% concession is provided for SC, ST and PD candidates i.e. they must secure a minimum of 55%marks in aggregate. A candidate is allowed only two attempts to write JEE. He/She is allowed to write JEE only in the year in which he/she passes the qualifying examination and/or in the following year. Candidates who join any of the IITs, IT-BHU Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad through JEE will not be permitted to appear in JEE in future.
